And besides her musical career, she leads Redolent Music, a music label she founded with CHUS, one of Dance Music's most renowned artists.
We caught up with La Santa during the first weeks of December to learn more about her latest news, the Redolent Music label and the plans for 2023.
Good talking to you, La Santa! Please tell a big of your story to the audiences that may don’t know you yet. How did you start with dance music?
Ola Brasil! I am La Santa, a Spanish DJ & Producer from Madrid, Spain. I am very happy to share these moments with you all so you can get to know me a little bit better.
My relationship with electronic music started when I was around 12-13 years old when I travelled with my mum to London and felt in love with House Music.
In Madrid we didn’t have so much selection by that time. I remember taking my mum to all the music stores in London, form Tower Records to the most little “unknown” shops looking for real gems.
It was like Christmas time for me. My mother stood by my side hours and hours, while I was digging in all the music. This is a memory that will last forever in me, I am so grateful to my mum sharing what we loved most, MUSIC.
My mum has been a great influence in my relation with music since she loves music and made music part of my life while growing up. She used to take my brother and I to classic music concerts, wake up us with all kinds of music, from Classical, to Jazz, to Boleros, to Bossa Nova, to Soul…
All of these genres is what I try to mix in a shaker like if it was a cocktail and try and be present in my productions and even my sets.
There is always an element or a song that takes me back in some way to my childhood and my passion & love for music.
You are known as a very eclectic artist. How do you manage to blend influences such as Classical, Jazz, Bossa Nova, Soul, World Music and Bali vibes into modern electronic music?
I consider myself as an eclectic & chameleonic DJ; I love House Music and within it, Organic, Deep, Minimal, Techno…All with a common denominator, a powerful bassline.
As I said previously, I try to have elements for there and here that emulate or resemble genres which I am in love with, Soul, Jazz…
Your whole philosophy and career - from your very own artistic name - seems to be surrounded by spirituality. How do you communicate spirituality to crowds thru music?
I consider myself a spiritual person & more to say, an energy person. Energy is everywhere, we are all energy, music is energy and the perfect channel to connect people thru memories, emotions…
That is what spirituality is for me. Actually my artistic name, La Santa, is a mix of my name and last names and ended up representing a part of myself which I like and think it is important to communicate, energy.
It is nothing related to religion, respecting all of them :)
So, the best way to communicate with my crowd is creating an energy every time I play in front of them, where I try to get to their deepest emotions with all the respect and try to get them in a journey where freedom is the main voice.
2022 has been a great year for artists, thanks to lockdown’s end. What were your main highlights of the year and what is next for 2023?
Yes indeed! I got to travel a lot with several tours in countries I love like Mexico and get to know other like Egypt, Panama, now Guatemala…
Travelling is one of my favourite things in life so I feel really lucky and grateful for being able to combine two of my favourite things in life, Music & Travelling.
This 2023 is full of new music and lots of touring. Starting the year I will be traveling to India for my first time with a tour I am really excited about.
Speaking now about Redolent Music, what is it like to manage a music label with a legendary artist, DJ and producer like CHUS? How is the work split? Who does what?
CHUS is an amazing human being and professional, I am so lucky to have had the chance to build such an amazing project together. Redolent and being able to have Chus as a mentor is a gift.
We practically do everything together, we speak the same language and it is very easy and gratifying to work together.
What type of music and artists fits best the label and how can artists submit music?
We created Redolent so everyone could have a chance to speak to the world with their music. We have very good and well known artists and we have very good and unknown artists on the label.
Our premise is quality music. They can submit their music thru [email protected]
2023 will be an incredible year with lots of amazing releases coming up, where our next VA Compliation “Redolent Scents” curated by me will see the light where lots of “new” artists are given the opportunity to show their amazing music along international artists like Amine K, Queen Rami, VOOZ Brothers, Eran Hersh, myself and many more. STAY TUNED!
Still on Redolent Music: can you share any of the 2023 plans and projects being designed for the imprint? Label events? Sub-labels, merch, anything like that?
The first release of the year is an amazing track by Greek DJ & Producer ADDFX & american DJ & Producer Gabsy.
Then we have our VA “Redolent Scents” curated by me as I was saying, lots of showcases, new merchandising, REDOLENT everywhere!
Any La Santa (or Redolent Music) brazilian tour & events in the works or being planned for next year?
You know what, I haven’t been yet to Brazil and I am dying to go, so hopefully there will be a next tour :)
Last: we always ask for advice for new talents hustling to get careers off the ground. Can you share some insights and tips for those guys trying to figure out to to stand out?
Work, work, work! LOL. It is a 100% full-time dedication work where you can stop the ball once is running. You have to be up for it, work hard and stay humble!
Constancy is a virtue, but can be worked out.
Don’t lose your hopes, your energy, keep going on and give the best out of you and if the recognition comes, stay humble, always with your feet on the ground, feel grateful and don’t forget, we are nothing with out our people, our crowds, you have to give the best of you to them.
