Q+A: Maxwell Simons

Hello Maxwell! Thank you for granting us this interview. You have been winning over the public as an artist who strengthens the connection between Latin America and Europe, in addition to your Brazilian and Italian roots, what was the key point that made you unite these cultures in your sound?

Hello! It's a pleasure to be here.I think that an artist just tries to be real , you can create your own path just by being focused on your roots and that’s as simple as it is.

I try different approaches but normally I end up drumming on a familiar rhythm and I feel satisfied with it. That 's it.

'Turma 12:00PM' is your second album and brings important Brazilian references such as Badsista and Furacão 2000, tells us a little about the creative process and the choice of artists such as Big Space and DJ Iodosan to co-produce some tracks.

I made this album because I grew up with baile funk since my cousin Jeff brought a CD of Furaçao 2000 in 2001, when I was 11.

Then I started Dj at 14 and I played a lot of techno, minimal, garage, while in the meantime spending afternoons at the skatepark doing freestyle rap.

Then Idm, fast techno and a lot of footwork.

The album is just the first introspection of what I really am.

I’m looking forward to improving the ability to express my vision of Brazilian music and what it is for me related to my Italian rave culture.

Big Space and DJ IODOSAN are not a choice, they’re FAM, I love them.

Since 2022 you have released several tracks between singles, EPs and albums, how do you balance your time in the studio and your gigs?

I have been involved since my young age in the club nights and the studio time is a reflection of what I experience.

It enhances the production time vibes. Studio time is home, it’s easy to be where you want to be. Gigs are simply satisfying.
